Description:

The Pregnant and Parenting Youth Program (PPY) offers comprehensive services including parenting education, Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED) preparation and completion, nutrition education, budgeting, counseling, life skills and computer training, mentoring and more for inner city teenage parents.

PPY enrolls more than 60 young parents each year under a performance-based program where staff and volunteers help teen parents increase proficiency in reading and math, achieve their GED and develop job skills. Since its founding in 1989, PPY has served more than 700 teen parents and their children, with an average client retention rate of 91% per year. Each year, clients have surpassed state educational requirements.

The program's core components include adult basic education/GED training, job skills/employment readiness training, basic computer skills classes, case management and group and individual counseling. Special events, educational day trips and recreational outings are also part of PPY.
