On-Going Volunteer Opportunities:

Child Care Respite Aides:

Our Child Care Respite Aides are involved in helping child care teachers and staff with all aspects of child care, including education, recreation, meal-time preparations and special activities. Aides must be at least 18 years old, physically able to handle children, free from illness or disease and able to handle multiple activities calmly. We welcome capable individuals who can volunteer at least one hour per week between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon or 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., Monday- Friday.

Child Care Readers:

We welcome adult and mature teen readers who can come to one of our centers regularly, such as a certain hour on a set weekday morning (between 9 a.m. and noon) or afternoon (between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.).

Educational Recreation Volunteers:

Volunteers can be positive influences on children ages 6-12 who attend Caring People Alliance's Boys & Girls Club After School or Summer Camp programs. We welcome adults and mature teens who can have fun with children while exhibiting team spirit, fair play, self-discipline and positive communication skills at least one hour per week. Our Boys & Girls Club After School programs run weekdays from 3:30-6 p.m., September through June, and our Summer Camp programs run weekdays from 7 a.m. -6 p.m., June 20- Sept. 2.

Computer Education Volunteers:

Our computer staff members welcome mature, computer-literate volunteers to help center members do homework, create websites, publish newsletters and play educational games. Volunteers should be calm, creative and responsible in sharing computer skills. We welcome reliable adults and mature teens who can help our computer teachers at least one hour per week between the hours of 3:30 and 6 p.m., Monday-Friday, September through June (After School program) or between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., June 20- Sept. 2 (Summer Camp program).

Art Education Volunteers:

Individuals who can draw, paint, dance, create poetry, produce plays or make music motivate children ages 5-18 to develop their own creative talents. Volunteers should be patient and have experience in sharing a specific art talent with a diverse community. Talented individuals can share their art forms with children at our three centers at least one hour per week between the hours of 3:30 and 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, September through June (After School program) or between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., June 20- Sept. 2 (Summer Camp program).

Homework Helpers/Tutors:

Homework help and tutoring are assets for children ages 5-18 in our Boys & Girls Club After School Programs. We welcome reliable volunteers to work with a child/youth or a small group of children/youth weekday afternoons between the hours of 3:30 and 6 p.m., from September through June, for at least one hour per week. Capable individuals should have, at a minimum, a high school diploma and strength in basic math and reading skills.

Multimedia/Web Design Specialists:

Multimedia and web design specialists and enthusiasts are needed to train Caring People Alliance computer staff. Individuals should have a background in computer technology, web design, video editing and/or another form of multimedia. Volunteers should be calm, creative and responsible in sharing computer skills. We welcome reliable adults and mature teens who can help our computer lab staff at least one hour per week, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Check-in Receptionist--Older Adult Program:

Our Fels South Philadelphia Community Center’s Older Adult Program is seeking individuals who can aide the program coordinator with checking Older Adult program memberships, on a daily basis. These volunteers must be available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or a portion of that time.

Math Tutor--Teen Parent Education and Employment Program:

Our Teen Parent Education and Employment Program (TPEEP) provides educational assistance and employment training for teen parents. Staff and volunteers help teen parents increase proficiency in reading and math, achieve their Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED) and develop job skills. At the minimum, TPEEP Math Tutors should have a bachelor’s degree and skill in math subjects ranging from basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to word problems, algebra and geometry. We welcome qualified volunteers who are available for at least one hour per week between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Reading Tutor--Teen Parent Education and Employment Program:

TPEEP (see above entry) also has a need for Reading Tutors. At the minimum, Reading Tutors should have a bachelor’s degree and skill in spelling, vocabulary and essay writing. We welcome qualified volunteers who are available for at least one hour per week between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Office Aide--Central Office:

Our Central Office, 1819 JFK Blvd., is in need of an office aide who can help with filing, stuffing envelopes and information packets and assist with large mailings. The volunteer should be available at least two hours per week between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
