The Pregnant and Parenting Youth Program (PPY) offers comprehensive services including parenting education, Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED) preparation and completion, nutrition education, budgeting, counseling, life skills and computer training, mentoring and more for inner city teenage parents. The Parenting Collaborative meets once a week for ten weeks. It gives participants information about various aspects of parenting, including the stages of child development (cognitive, emotional and relational), varied approaches to positive parenting (effective discipline, positive communication and establishing structure and boundaries), conflict resolution and problem solving. Participants learn about what constitutes child abuse and neglect, including parental responsibilities regarding safety and protection of children. Established in 1996, Caring Paws is a specialized service of Caring People Alliance that offers animal- and horticultural-assisted therapy for individuals and groups, as well as animal and plant education programs. These therapeutic and educational programs are brought to nursing homes, assisted living facilities, schools, after school programs and summer camps. Click for more information.
The Older Adult program, for ages 55+, at our South and West Philadelphia Community Centers, provide meals and wide-ranging educational, social and recreational activities. Members take part in dance, art, theater, games, discussions and more. Click for more information.
